Kingston’s Buccaneers did something no Olympic League team has done in nearly two years: hand Sequim a league loss.

Fastpitch: Sequim falls

Kingston’s Buccaneers did something no Olympic League team has done in nearly two years: hand Sequim a league loss.

The Bucs shut down Sequim’s powerful lineup and scratched out enough runs for a win in a 3-1 victory in Kingston on April 18.

Fittingly, the last time Sequim had lost a league game was at Kingston, on May 8, 2010. The Wolves then reeled off 24 consecutive league victories.

Friday’s game was tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth when Kingston took a 2-1 lead and then added a run in the sixth.

The decision leaves Port Angeles (9-0 in league, 9-2 overall) the lone undefeated team in league play, followed by Sequim (7-1, 9-2) and Bremerton (6-2, 7-2).

Sequim was slated to play at North Kitsap on April 21. The Wolves are at Klahowya on April 23 and at Bremerton on April 25 before hosting Port Angeles on April 28.

McMenamin leads Wolves

Despite playing a non-league match, freshman Alex McMenamin is playing like every match matters.

She shot a 48 to lead the Wolves (4-0 in league) on nine holes, this time on April 16 at White Horse Golf Course in Kingston.

While Sequim, which shot 288 as a team in a three-way match, nearly outplayed Kingston, 284, they did defeat North Kitsap, 317.

For the Wolves, Brianna Kettel shot a 51, Cecilee Wech 58, Kailee Price 64, Megan O’Mera 67 and Kelly Anders 68.

Kingston’s Aimee Zehrung led all golfers with a 47 while North Kitsap’s Kaylin Oster shot a 49.

The Wolves girls and boys teams (4-1 in league), which had a bye week, hosted Port Townsend at The Cedars at Dungeness on April 23.

Tennis: Vikings edge Wolves on courts

Sequim’s girls tennis squad slipped to third in standings after a home 4-3 loss to North Kitsap on April 15.

Details were not available.

North Kitsap leads the league at 4-0, followed by Olympic (3-1) and Sequim (3-2).

A Sequim-North Mason match slated for April 17 was rescheduled for April 23, because of poor weather.

The Wolves (5-2 overall) were slated to host Kingston on April 22. Sequim is at North Mason on April 23 and at Port Townsend on April 24 before hosting Bremerton on May 1.
