With the winter snow finally cleared away, the Sequim Equestrian Team and other District 4 teams kicked off the competition portion of their 2019 seasons with a district meet in Elma on March 3-5.
Sequim picked up seven top-three place finishes overall, with Grace Niemeyer placing first in jumping and Yana Hoesel taking top honors in breakaway roping. The pair teamed up to take second in cattle sorting and Hoesel added a second-place finish in individual flags.
Miranda Williams was runner-up in the keyhole event.
Placing third were Hoesel, Niemeyer, Williams and Abbi Priest in Drill Team Freestyle 4’s, while Sequim’s team Canadian flags team (Hoesel, Niemeyer, Williams and Keri Tucker) also placed third.
