Sequim Little League stars fall at districts

Sequim two entries into the District 2 tournaments in late June each fell a couple of wins short of a state berth.

The Sequim Little League UII Boys went 4-2 in their 9-11 district baseball tourney in Port Orchard, with two wins coming in high-scoring affairs and squeaking by in a pair of one-run games.

On the strength of Blake Marshall’s pitching and Bryant Laboy’s infield defense, the Sequim squad beat North Kitsap-American 12-6 on June 23, then edged South Kitsap-Western 12-11 a day later with Nikadius Scholer closing the game out on the mound.

Bainbridge Island, the eventual district champ, handed Sequim its first loss on June 25, a 13-2 decision. Sequim rebounded with an 11-10 victory over South Kitsap-Southern on June 26 and then knocked off Gig Harbor-American 14-9 on June 28 to advance to the consolation final. There, Gig Harbor National ended Sequim’s season with a 16-6 decision on June 29.

Sequim’s 8-10 softball squad ran into a pair of tough teams in their district bracket in Poulsbo, falling to North Kitsap 10-2 on June 23 and 6-4 to Gig Harbor on June 25. North Kitsap took the 8-10 softball district title.
