Sequim youths sink shots at annual Elks Hoop Shoot

Next target to take aim at: districts.

The annual Sequim Elks Hoop Shoot on Jan. 12 at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club saw a number of Sequim youths line up to sink shots, with first place winners earning a spot at the district tournament set for Jan. 27, also the B&G Club.

There, top shooters from eight district lodges — Sequim, Port Angeles, Forks, Port Townsend, Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Bremerton and Ocean Shores — will be vying for the state hoop shoot on Feb. 10. State winners compete at regionals on March 10, and regional champs go on to Chicago for the national event on April 21.

At the Sequim shoot, a pair of boys winners took top honors by a single shot, including Keenan Green in the 12-13 boys division with 15 points (Dylan Allen had 14), while Isaiah Alonzo’s 20 points edged out Garrett Little by one in the 10-11 boys. Solomon Sheppard won the 8-9 boys category with 16 points, with Kaiden Tesland in second.

On the girls’ side, Brooklyn Comsuz had the best aim with 10 made shots to win the 8-9 division; Lucy Vincent was second. Roslyn Guild won the 10-11 girls category with Mallory Kelly the runner-up, and Kika Oldham took the 12-13 crown with Zoe Brantley in second.
