SLIDESHOW: Runners hit trail for Railroad Bridge 5k, 10k

The second event of the Run the Peninsula series — and the first in Sequim — saw runners and walkers alike crossing the Dungeness at Saturday’s Railroad Bridge 5k/10k.

Evan Prussack of Port Angeles won the 10k in a time of 40:00 even, averaging 6:27 minutes per mile, while Marisa Zahn of Bremerton was the first woman finisher in the 10k with a time of 42:20.

Sequim’s own Colby Ellefson won the 5k in a time of 19:46 — nearly two-and-a-half minutes faster than the runner-up. Peggy Zeeb of Port Angeles took the female 5k crown in a time of 22:52.

Sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette and presented by Olympic Medical Center, the Railroad Bridge run saw 419 participants compete and another 162 virtual racers register (to date).

Proceeds from this event go to several local organizations — including the Peninsula Trails Coalition who builds and maintains the trail.

The third race in the five-race series is the North Olympic Discovery Marathon (NODM), set for Sunday, June 2. The NODM features a 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon, marathon walk and marathon relay.

Other events include the Larry Scott Trail 5k/10k on Saturday, Oct. 19, and the Jamestown S’Klallam 5k/10k on Dec. 7.
