Beuke, U.S. wins bronze at U23 world rowing championships

Sequim graduate and NCAA champion Elise Beuke can add another medal to her cabinet after the U23 World Rowing Championships held in Poland late last month.

Beuke’s United States boat finished third in the world at the World U23 Championships on July 29, with a time of 6 minutes, 8.04 seconds. Beuke rowed in the seat 7 position. The world championship was won by a Canadian boat with a time of 6:04.61. The second-place boat was from The Netherlands with a time of 6:06.58.

The U.S. boat improved greatly from its preliminary heat. The Americans finished second to the Canadians in a preliminary heat on July 26 with a time of 6:24.96. Canada won that heat with a time of 6:21.70.

Beuke’s 8+ boat had rowers from UW, Stanford, Princeton and Yale.

Beuke became an NCAA champion in 2017 as a rower for national champion Washington and was named a collegiate All-American. Washington finished second in the NCAA championships this spring.

Beuke also won the silver in the U.S. Women’s eight at the 2017 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and finished seventh in the double sculls at the 2015 Junior World Rowing Championships in Rio de Janiero. She graduated from Sequim High School in 2015.
