Coed soccer league kicks off in September

The Port Angeles Parks &Recreation Department hosts an adult coed soccer league that starts Sept. 10. Games are at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Cost is $55 per play in the silver division and $65 per player in the gold division. Register at the parks and recreation department, 308 E. Fourth St. Individual players will be placed on teams on an “as needed” basis. Call 417-4557 for more information.

Free state park day set for Aug. 25

To celebrate the National Park System’s 101st birthday, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering free entrance to state parks on Friday, Aug. 25. Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks by vehicle. State Parks free days are in keeping with 2011 legislation that created the Discover Pass, which costs $30 annually or $10 for a one-day permit.

Three more State Parks free days are available in 2017: Saturday, Sept. 30 (National Public Lands Day), Saturday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Friday, Nov. 24 (Autumn free day). Registration open for Quilcene runs

Registration is open for the 2017 Quilcene Oyster Half Marathon, 10k and 5k races set for Sunday, Sept. 17. Early bird registration fees are: $30 for 5k, $40 for 10k and $55 for the half marathon ($5 less for students 18 and younger with ID or active military personnel). Fees go up another $5 for day-of-race registration.

Online registration closes Sept. 10. Proceeds benefit the local nonprofit organizations Quilcene/Brinnon Dollars for Scholars and Count Me In For Quilcene. Register and find more information at quilcenehalfmarathon.com
