Two-man tourney slated at The Cedars

The 2019 New Year’s Two-Man golf tournament is set for Saturday, Jan. 5, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

The tourney begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.; format is a two-person shamble on the front nine, two-person best ball on the back nine.

Cost is $60 per person ($40 for annual members and staff); fee includes green fees, KPs, boxed lunch, cart, range use and chance at $1,500 in prizes. Optional honeypots are $20 (gross and net).

Polar Bear golf tourney set for late January

The 26th-annual Polar Bear Championship golf tournament is set for Friday-Sunday, Jan. 25-27, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Format is 36-hole individual stroke play with one pro and three amateur divisions. Cost is $160 per person and includes three rounds of golf plus a practice round on Jan. 25, range balls, tee prize, green fees, lunch on Jan. 27 and a chance at $5,000 in prizes.

PGA professionals or apprentices in good standing, as well as amateurs with valid USGA index of 27.0 or lower, are eligible.

Breckenridge gets state honor

Sequim’s Tayler Breckinridge was named as an honorable mention to the 2A All-State Volleyball Team by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association.

Breckinridge, an outside hitter, led the Wolves with 293 kills and 374 digs, was a big part in Sequim going 10-4 league and finishing tied for second place in the Olympic League 2A division.

Also making All-State teams were players from Neah Bay and Clallam Bay at the 1B level. Making the 1A All-State second team were outside hitter Miriam Wonderly of Clallam Bay and Libero Grace Buzzell of Neah Bay. Neah Bay’s outside hitter Ocean Aguirre was a 1B honorable mention, as was the Red Devils’ Faye Martinez as a middle blocker.

Cobb gets academic kudos

Mikey Cobb, junior at North Central College and 2015 Sequim High School graduate, was an Academic All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection. To earn these honors, individuals needed to have earned a varsity letter in their sport and maintained at least a 3.30 grade-point-average.
