Little League opens registration, sets tryout dates

Registration for Sequim Little League boys and girls teams is open now at www.sequimlittleleague.com.

Cost is $60 T-ball players and $85 for all others.

Tryouts are Monday, Feb. 25, and Sunday, March 10 at the Sequim Little League fields off Silberhorn Road. Softball majors and senior division tryouts are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. while baseball majors division tryouts are noon-2 p.m.

Minors assessments are also held Feb 25. and March 10, from 10 a.m.-noon (there are no assessments for prep or T-ball).

Players who want to be placed on a team must attend one of the two tryout dates.

Volunteers are also needed for the 2018 season, with positions open for coaches, umpires, concessions, field maintenance and fundraising.

Annual ‘Bike Tune-Up’ is on

The Olympic Discovery Trail 2019 Bike Tune-Up Fundraiser is on through April 30, helping locals get their bikes ready to ride while raising funds for trail projects.

Purchase a coupon at olympic discoverytrail.org/2019-bike-tune-benefit-2 and use at any of several participating bike shops on the Olympic Peninsula to get one’s bike serviced (parts and/or additional services not included). All funds raised go to future projects on the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Participating shops include: Sequim Bike Works in Sequim; Bike Garage and Sound Bikes & Kayaks in Port Angeles; and The Broken Spoke, PT Cyclery, The Recyclery and Williwaw in Port Townsend.

Anglers set fundraiser

The Puget Sound Anglers North Olympic Peninsula Chapter will host the group’s annual Kids Fishing Day fundraiser at Sunland Golf and Country Club on Saturday, Feb. 23. The fundraiser supports all club initiatives, including Kids Fishing Day (set for April 13 this year) and Kids Fall Fishing at Carrie Blake Community Park, scholarships to local students, the new Veterans Fishing Program, Dungeness Fish Hatchery volunteers, Crab Fest Grab-a-Carb-Derby and Salmon in the Classroom (in conjunction with the Dungeness River Center).

The doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the silent auction, dinner will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. and the main event, the live auction, starts at 7 p.m.

Peninsula College seeking nominations for Hall of Fame

Peninsula College Athletics is now accepting nominations for its’ third Pirate Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 15.

The college hosts induction ceremonies every other year. The criteria calls for honorees to be athletes, employees or community members who have made outstanding contributions to the college’s athletic program. Details of that criteria and the nomination form are available on the college’s athletic website (athletics.pencol.edu) under “Hall of Fame.”

The Pirate Hall of Fame Committee will review the nominations in February and select the 2020 class of inductees. The ceremony will be held in June of 2020.
