PC soccer coaches headed to California

Cale Rodriguez, head coach of Peninsula College’s men’s soccer team, accepted an assistant coaching position at Cal State-Irvine on Jan. 20.

PC athletic director Rick Ross reports that Rodriguez and fiancée Dana De Vaughn, PC women’s team assistant coach, were slated to leave the area early this week.

“We will begin a national search to fill those two positions in February,” Ross said.

Under Rodriguez, the Pirates were North Region champs in 2016 and he was named regional Coach of the Year. PC earned a national ranking during the season and went 16-0-3 but lost in an NWAC tournament quarterfinal match to Tacoma.

In 2015, Rodriguez’s first year, the Pirates knocked off Spokane 4-3 to win the NWAC championship. It was the Pirates’ fourth NWAC title in six years.
