Track and Field: Sequim boys earn a sweep, Bremerton edges SHS girls

Sequim’s tracksters were ready to compete at their only home meet of the season, come rain or shine — and it had plenty of both.

The Wolves’ boys (3-0) weathered the blustery conditions for a three-team sweep of Bremerton, North Mason and Chimacum, while Sequim’s girls (2-1) placed second behind Bremerton.

Senior Brendan Lauritzen and sophomores Riley Martin and Murray Bingham each won a pair of events as Sequim tallied 118 team points, out-pacing Bremerton (85), North Mason (45) and Chimacum (12).

Lauritzen won both shot put (39-11) and discus (101-11) events and placed second in the javelin (142-10) behind teammate Riley Cowan (149-0).

Martin set a personal best in both 110 high hurdles (16.27) and 300 hurdles (46.67).

Bingham swept the distance races, taking top honors in the 1,600 meters (4:46) and 3,200 meters (10:40). Fellow soph Alec Shingleton took top honors in the 800-meter race (2:14).

Sophomore Elizabeth Sweet won the pole vault (9-0) and was second in the triple jump (25-7).

Senior Hilary Holtrop set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 8 inches.

Freshman Lindsey Leader won the shot put with a 27-foot 3-inch mark.

The Wolves also took first in both 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
