Valley of the Trolls races ‘go Hawaiian’

With the theme “Trolls Gone Hawaiian,” the fourth annual Valley of the Trolls, an event featuring a half marathon, 10-kilometer and 5k races, is set for Saturday, Aug. 25.

Taking place at Bandy Farms and the famed Troll Haven grounds at 950 Gardiner Beach Road, the USATF-certified events sees runners and walkers traverse courses on a privately-owned estate occupying 150 acres along Discovery Bay, located at 950 Gardiner Beach Road.

With the catch phrase “Dust off your coconut bras and shake out your grass skirts, the Trolls have gone Hawaiian,” the annual races begin at 8 a.m.

Registration is $60 for the half-marathon run/walk; $45 for the 10K run/walk; and $40 for the 5K run/walk.

“It’s not too late for people to sign up,” said Jane Storm, who co-organizers the race with daughter Rebecca Krajewski.

T-shirts and a commemorative finisher medal are included in the entry fee. Those registering from now until the race will receive shirts either race day or by mail. Storm said that unless there is a glut of day-of-race registrants, runners and walkers will get their shirts on race day.

Storm said the comments she hears most from Valley of the Trolls participants are “Wow, I didn’t know this was out here” and “What a fun family thing.”

She said the Chimacum High School football team is participating this year, gaining sponsors to raise funds for equipment.

Commemorative awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners in the half marathon, as well as age groups (12 and younger, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+).
