The Wolves managed to take a set off the defending league champs, but North Kitsap proved to be too powerful at the net in a four set victory over Sequim on Sept. 18.

The Vikings topped Sequim 25-16, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-18, in a match that was closer than the score may show; the Wolves had a 17-15 lead in the third game before a 10-4 Viking run.

“We just couldn’t get enough offense going or get any blocks on their attacks to keep up from that point,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.

The Wolves down just 19-18 in the fourth before NK closed it out on a 6-0 streak.

Tayler Breckenridge led Sequim with 23 kills. Kalli Wiker was 18-for-18 on serves with two aces and a team-high 19 assists, while Brittany Gale had 17 assists and three kills.

Isabelle Dennis led the Sequim defense with 21 digs, Breckenridge added 18 digs and Jayla Julmist had four blocks.

“Our girls played some great defense,” Webber Heilman said.

The Wolves host North Kitsap on Oct. 11.

“We need more offense and better blocking to beat NK next time we play,” Webber Heilman said.

Sequim started the week with a four-set win at 1A Klahowya on Sept. 17.

Breckenridge paced the SHS offense with 23 kills and was 20-for-20 on serves with three of Sequim’s eight aces. The Wolves missed three serves all evening and got a combined 42 assists from Gale and Wiker. Dennis (20 digs), Breckenridge (19) and Bobbi Sparks led the defensive effort.

“(Sparks) played libero for the last three games and did a great job,” Webber Heilman said. “Every one of our players got in the match. Our setters spread out the sets. Every player (who) played in the front row got at least one kill.”
