A big first quarter wasn’t enough to hold of a second half surge from the visiting Trailblazers as Peninsula’s women dropped a 62-57 decision on Sunday afternoon.

Tamika Etherly posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Centralia (3-1) to victory in Port Angeles.

Peninsula (3-3) held an 18-5 lead after one quarter and 31-17 lead at halftime but the Trailblazers outscored PC 27-14 in the third quarter.

Pirate Jenise McKnight had a double-double of her own with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Anaya Rodisha led the team with 18 points while Alicia Dugan had 11 points and Taisha Thomas added 10.

On Dec. 2, the Pirates’ season home debut, Peninsula had a much easier time in clobbering the visiting Wenatchee Valley Knights, 79-22.

The Pirates led 23-7 after one quarter and 40-9 by halftime.

McKnight led all scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds in just 18 minutes of action. Dugan had 17 points and three steals, and Rodisha chipped in 11 points.

Peninsula held Wenatchee Valley (2-4) to 18 percent shooting and no Knight scored more than four points. Wenatchee Valley finished third at the NWAC tourney in 2015-2016.

The Pirates are back in action at home against Highline on Dec. 7 before tipping off against Clackamas at the Pierce Holiday Invitational, held Dec. 9-11 in Tacoma.
