College-bound Sequim High School seniors achieve a landmark this Friday at their school’s commencement ceremony, and they’ll have plenty of support in the following months and years.
More than $3.1 million worth.
SHS grads-to-be received scholarships from more than 50 local and regional organizations in addition to dozens of scholarships from their intended schools, as announced by principal Shawn Langston at a scholarship awards assembly on June 5.
Commencement is set for 6 p.m. at the Sequim High School stadium near Fir Street. SHS’s four valedictorians are Abigail Berry, Derek Chamblin, Ian Jones and Austin Law. The faculty-elected speaker is Andrea Tjemsland and the class-elected speaker is Abi Lopez. A drug- and alcohol-free graduation party is slated for 9 p.m.-4 a.m. at Sequim Community Church.
School officials don’t yet have a firm number of graduates for this year; last year, about 190 students earned diplomas from Sequim High School.
