Thrift shop is open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop at 204 W. Bell St. is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. Featured will be a large assortment of Christmas items, crystal baskets and a large assortment of coats and jackets for men and women. All white-tagged items are half-price. Professors plan talk on ‘Digital Age’

At a presentation this week, get an overview of the digital age and the revolutionary effects of technologies — such as Blockchain, artificial intelligence, the internet-of-things, cloud computing and biotechnology — on humanity’s social, medical, economic and political existence from Peninsula College professors Tanya Knight and Rae Rawley.

Knight ad Rawley will speak at the Studium Generale at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Little Theatre at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The event is free and open to the public.

Rawley is a professor in the Peninsula College Bachelor of Applied Science program, and Knight, who has worked at the college in several capacities since 2001, is a professor in the Information Technology Department.

Trunk or Treat at Mariner Cafe

The Olympic Peninsula Rat Racers host a Trunk or Treat from 3-6 p.m. on Halloween in the parking lot of the Mariner Cafe, 609 W. Washington St.

Veterans Day ceremony flags due

The Clallam County Veterans Association is sponsoring the 2019 Veterans Day ceremony at Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11

All veteran organizational flags to be displayed at the event need to be delivered to the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis, Port Angeles, between 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. The organizational flags will be delivered to the U.S. Coast Guard and posted for the Veteran’s Day ceremony; they must be picked up immediately following the ceremony.

Those not able to coordinate with this time are asked to contact Jeff Reyes at 360-797-1791 for alternate instructions.

Garden group to talk landscaping with CCD director

Joe Holtrop, Executive Director of the Clallam Conservation District, is the featured speaker at the Sequim Prairie Garden Club meeting set for 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, in the clubhouse at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St.

Holtrop will emphasize natural landscaping in his presentation, promoting the planting of native plants, trees and shrubs.

Holtrop has undergraduate and graduate degrees in landscape architecture and a masters degree in adult education. Since 1990 he has conducted workshops and classes on natural landscaping, site analysis and landscape design for the conservation district.

Club to host aerospace museum director

Join the Newcomers’ Club and learn about the Port Townsend Aerospace Museum for its director Michael Payne, starting at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the Legends Room at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road.

Payne will discuss vintage airplanes the museum houses as well as the facility’s training practices and history.

Lunch, which starts at noon, is $21 and includes a traditional turkey dinner with trimmings and pumpkin pie; the program only fee is $5.

‘Court System 101’ seminar offered

The Clallam County Prosecutors Office presents a community education seminar on “How To Maneuver Through The Legal System, or Understanding The Court System 101.” The seminar is set for 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Sequim City Council Chamber at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

Presenters include Michele Devlin, Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor, and Matt Roberson, Superior Court Deputy Prosecutor. Guests include District Court Judge Dave Nuepert and Clallam County Public Defender Harry Gasnick.

Citizens of Sequim or Port Angeles as well as students are invited to attend here is no cost for the seminar. Citizens are urged to bring questions regarding judicial and criminal prosecution.

PA grange sets veterans appreciation party

Fairview Grange, at 161 Lake Farm Road in Port Angeles, is hosting a Veterans Appreciation Event at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12

Veterans or active service members are not required to bring any food.

All are welcome to attend. Those attending (other than veterans or active service members), a potluck item is appreciated.

There will be a short ceremony to honor veterans, active service members and those that have passed away.

Give back through Operation Christmas Child

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, Sequim families are expressing their gratitude by giving back.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse — an international Christian relief and evangelism organization — is once again collecting shoeboxes of items for children during Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week, Nov. 18-25.

Sequim’s drop-off collection point is Eastern Hills Community Church, 91 Savannah Lane.

Drop-off times are 4- 7 p.m., Nov. 18; 1-3 p.m., Nov. 19-20; 5-7 p.m., Nov. 21; 1-3 p.m., Nov. 22; 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., Nov. 23; 1-3 p.m., Nov. 24, and 10 a.m.-noon, Nov. 25.

Fill shoeboxes with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items.

Senior menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at noon at Dungeness Schoolhouse, 657 Towne Road, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP (at least 24 hours in advance) to 360-565-5038. Menus are subject to change. Whole wheat bread and milk or milk alternative are offered daily.

Tuesday, Nov. 5: Salad bar and fruit, savory beef squash casserole, roll & butter, dessert

Friday, Nov. 8: Salad bar and fruit, Polish sausage, sauerkraut and steamed red potatoes, dessert.
