Clallam County closes part of Strait to shellfish harvesting

The Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services’ environment health division has closed shellfish harvesting of all species from the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Low Point Lyre River east to Dungeness Spit.

County officials made the announcement on July 16.

All species means clams (including geoduck), oysters, mussels and other invertebrates such as the moon snail. All areas are closed for the sport harvest of scallops. The closures do not apply to shrimp, however.

Discovery Bay is also closed to all shellfish harvesting, as are ocean beaches.

Sequim Bay is closed to butter and varnish clams only.
