Peninsula College sets Running Start information presentation
Peninsula College hosts a free virtual Running Start Information Night via Zoom, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Students and parents who wish to attend the session are asked to RSVP to Cindy Lauderback, manager of High School Programs, at clauderback@pencol.edu or 360-417-6341. Get details about the program at www.pencol.edu/running-start.
The event is designed to provide prospective Running Start students and their parents with an opportunity to learn more about the program and how high school juniors and seniors can earn college credit, tuition-free.
They will also learn about strategies for success and what parents and families can do to be supportive.

Celebrate Rotary Club of Sequim’s 90th online
The Rotary Club of Sequim hosts a celebration of the club’s 90th anniversary via Zoom only, at noon on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Those who haven’t received the Zoom meeting ID and would like to join in on the celebration are asked to email sequimrotary@gmail.com for an invitation.
Pacific Northwest photo contest set
First Federal is encouraging the community to submit landscape photos of Western Washington into the company’s Proudly PNW Photo Contest.
Photos can be submitted and voted on until Wednesday, Sept. 23. Winners will be featured in the First Federal community desk calendar along with a chance to win some cash prizes. The contest includes one grand prize of $250, 12 secondary prizes of $50 and one “Fan Choice” earns a Pacific Northwest-themed gift basket valued at $100.

OTA sets online annual meeting
Olympic Theatre Arts’ annual meeting is set for 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29.
Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting be online via Zoom.; the link for Zoom will be available at olympictheatrearts.org a few days prior to the meeting.
Shred event an SOS fundraiser
A community shred event fundraiser is set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Sequim Village Shopping Center, 651 W. Washington St.
There is no charge for document shredding, though attendees are encouraged to donate. Funds raised go to the SOS (Save Our Sequim) Legal Fund.
Participants are asked to not get out of one’s vehicle; this is a “drive through” event only, with social distancing and mask wearing observed. Event attendees are directed to enter in the southwest entrance on Seventh Street only and to follow signs.
Conservation district offers native plant sale
The Clallam Conservation District hosts its 2021 Native Plant Sale online. Place orders of 100 more plants of the same species online at clallamcd.org/native-plants, or order by phone at 360-775-3747, x5.
The deadline for placing orders is Nov. 12, 2020. Plants will be available for pick-up on Feb. 27, 2021; depending on order size, direct shipment may be possible sooner than that date.
Plants will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Drive-through school fair set
The eighth-annual Sequim Back to School Fair will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, 400 W. Fir St.
In Sequim, volunteers will be on site to guide families from the Sequim High School stadium parking lot on West Fir Street to the pick-up site.
Families with students at Greywolf Elementary may drive through anytime between 10 a.m.-noon, while families with students at Helen Haller Elementary may drive through between noon-2 p.m. Families with students at Sequim Middle School, Sequim High School and Olympic Peninsula Academy may drive through anytime between 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
