Tish Hamilton, left, of Port Angeles, and Skylar Kryzworz of Sequim are the 2024 Hands on History contest winners. Kryzworz, a student at Sequim High School, placed first and Hamilton, a Port Angeles High student, was second.

On Saturday, April 27, at the Black Diamond Community Hall in Port Angeles, two Clallam County high school students read their prepared essays and presented their public displays representing a history topic of their choice in the presence of judges and audience.

First place winner was awarded to Paige (Skylar) Kryzworz with her presentation of “The Histories of the Ferries on Lake Crescent.”

Kryzworz is a junior at Sequim High School where she participates with the Interact Club and was a 2023 Sequim Irrigation Festival princess. She also volunteers at the Sequim Food Bank and is an ambassador for the Girl Scout program.

She will receive $1,500 upon graduation from high school. Her plans are to attend the University of Chicago and would like to major in science.

The second place winner was Tish Hamilton with her presentation of Tse-whit-zen Village.

Hamilton is a 2024 Clallam County Fair Royalty princess, a cheerleader at Port Angeles High School and a participant in the school’s DECA and orchestra programs.

She will receive $750 upon graduation from high school. Her plans are to attend the University of Washington and pursue a career in the medical or communication fields.
