‘Love Your Soil’ presentation set for Feb. 12

Learn about the harmonious, vibrant pillars of soil health to achieve vigorous, resilient gardens by attending the Clallam County Master Gardeners’ Green Thumb Education Series presentation “Love Your Soil.”

The presentation will be from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Vern Burton Community Center meeting rooms, 308 E. Fourth Street in Port Angeles.

Presenter Dave Eberle will:

• Highlight soil properties and ways you can determine your own soil’s texture, compaction, and drainage.

• Clarify the benefits of clay in your soil and also how to deal with excessive clay.

• Examine recent discoveries on the amazing roles that microbes play in actually feeding plants and protecting them from disease.

• Discuss the four principles of soil health that have revolutionized both commercial agriculture and backyard gardening.

Eberle is the co-lead Master Gardener of the Woodcock Demonstration Garden. He also is the lead Master Gardener for the vegetable garden at Woodcock that showcases the four principles of soil health. Eberle serves on the board of the Clallam County Master Gardener Foundation. He received the national Presidential Achievement Award in 2025.

The Green Thumb Education Series, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners, is held in person typically on Thursdays from January through May, and September through November.
