Sungcha Brewer
1944 – 2025
Sungcha was born on January 28, 1944, to Talkun O and Il Nam Yi in Niki Shi, Haiko Keng, Japan. She was born in Japan, but she was ALL KOREAN!
She was preceded in death by her parents and three older siblings.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Darrel Brewer; sister Micha of Pyongtaek, Korea; sister Okson of Seoul, Korea; daughter Kristen Brewer Johnson, her husband Travis Johnson, and their daughters Kariya and Taryn; and her son Kevin Brewer, his wife Nicole (née Cooper) Brewer, and their daughters Raimey and Maia — all residing in Sequim.
Brother-in-law Ted Brewer of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and sister-in-law Dona Brewer of Roseburg, Oregon, also survive. Her nieces and nephews also reside in South Korea and the United States.
All of them will miss her passionately, as she loved them all passionately.
Sungcha passed away in her husband’s arms at their residence in Sequim, with Kristen and Kevin in attendance.
Sungcha lived a good life. As the wife of a Navy veteran, she lived in Korea, Japan, and the United States — from Davenport, Iowa, to Homestead, Florida — while Darrel was in the service. Eventually, she wound up in retirement in Alturas, California, for 21 years, and now in Sequim for 12 years.
Her infectious personality allowed her to leave a positive, lasting impression on all who came into contact with her. She and Darrel moved here in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She was a loving and giving mother and grandmother — “Grandma” or “Halmoni” to her granddaughters.
She was known by them as a good source of yaki mandu, fried rice, kimchi, and naemyong on a moment’s notice. She adored them, and they adored her.
