Sequim Middle School held an assembly on Nov. 10 to honor the men and women who have served their country in the military. In addition to the student body, staff and administrators, several community members were in attendance. Highlights of the assembly included an introduction by teacher Richard Miko (in full dress uniform), presentation of colors by the Dungeness Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol, the singing of our national anthem by teacher Vicki Helwick, student speeches by Olivia Preston, Kariya Johnson, Oscar Walchenbach, Jack Van De Wege, Mary McAleer (Master of Ceremonies), Carson Holt and Alex Schmadeke, performances by the Sequim Middle School and Sequim High School choirs, directed by John Lorentzen, taps played by Jackson Lindorfer (trumpet), and a presentation on the meaning of the MIA/POW table by Caity Karapostoles. A reception with refreshments, organized by Sauni Holt and Nikki Brock, followed the assembly.
