Freddy Pink returns to play ODT fundraiser
The annual Olympic Discovery Trail fundraiser, set for 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden, features the Freddy Pink 10-piece rock and soul band. A silent auction includes more than 150 valuable items, while food and drink (beer, wine, cider, soft drinks) are available for snacking. Cost is a recommended donation of $20; all proceeds benefit the Peninsula Trails Coalition to support the development of the Olympic Discovery Trail. Spar features at OPAA meeting
The Olympic Peninsula Art Association presents a program and demonstration by Susan Spar, along with a special art supply sale, on Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Parish Hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
The meeting starts with social time at 9:30 a.m., a business meeting at 10 a.m. and a demonstration following.
Spar works in oil and pastel and teaches in her home studio. Susan will be presenting a slide show on the making of a maritime painting and will also demonstrate one of her techniques for painting clouds. For information, contact Linda at 360-681-4884 or see www.sequimarts.org.
Free beginner’s guitar class offered
Instructor Susan Hove-Pabst hosts a free guitar class for beginners. Classes will be held from 7-8:15 p.m. Tuesday evenings beginning Oct. 3, at Pacific Pantry, 229 S. Sequim Ave., Sequim. Participants do not need to be able to read music but are asked to bring a guitar in working condition. Attendees will be asked to buy a book after the first week. Room is limited so it is on a first come-first served basis. Sign up in advance at the Pacific Pantry, where there is a sign-up sheet and information. Hove-Pabst, a retired Professor Emerita of Music, has taught guitar in many settings over the years, including at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and the former “Haystack” summer program of Portland State University. Music set at Elks Lodge
Round Trip plays rock ‘n’ roll, country and oldies for the Sunday, Oct. 8, dance from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. Cost is $8, a portion of which supports charities.
Peninsula College to fete poetry anthology
Local and regional poets are in the spotlight as Peninsula College celebrates the poetry anthology “WA 129” at the Sept. 28 Studium Generale, hosted at 12:30 p.m. at the school’s Little Theatre, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Poet Laureate Tod Marshall and PC 2017 Writer-In-Resident Alice Derry will be joined by Tess Gallagher, Sequim’s own Ruth Marcus and other featured writers.

Photo exhibit details Standing Rock events
The Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, (401 E. First St., Port Angeles), hosts an open house and video presentation featuring photographer Jeff Ferguson and his interactive exhibit, “Three Days at Standing Rock,” on Tuesday, Oct. 3. In 2016, Ferguson spent three days meeting, interviewing, and standing in solidarity with the people most affected by the Dakota Access Pipeline. The display includes prints on metal that draw attention to conflicts at the heart of the 2016 protests in North Dakota.
