Olympic Theatre Arts opens Children’s Theatre Winter Class registration

Olympic Theatre Arts is accepting registrations for two Children’s Theatre winter class series held in January.

On Tuesdays, Lorra Cornetet will lead a class for children ages 4-8 called “Jellybeans.” This class explores the wonders of creative story-telling and theatre basics through imaginative, interactive games.

“This is our second class series for our youngest thespians,” OTA executive director Carol Willis said. “Both the families and the students in the fall session were super impressed with the quality of the show presented at the end of the session. The development we saw during this ten-week period was very impressive, and they had so much fun that they didn’t want to miss a single class!

“Lorra is an amazing asset as our newest children’s theatre instructor.”

The “Jellybeans” class runs 3:30-4:30 p.m. and begins Tuesday, Jan. 16.

A second series of classes, now entering its fourth year at OTA, is offered for youth ages 8-18 and will continue to be presented on Wednesdays beginning in January.

Instructors Lisa Mantchev and Bonne Smith explore “International Folklore” as the theme for the winter class. The students will explore global storytelling techniques and learn about theatre history.

During the session, the actors will be cast for short scene work culminating in a showcase performance at the end of the session.

“International Folklore” is from 3:30-5:30 p.m. an begins Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Both sessions will continue for 10 class meetings, ending on March 27 and 28, and will be held at Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Tuition for “Jellybeans” is $80 and “Folklore” $120, with need-based tuition assistance available made possible through a grant from Kitsap Bank.
