Milestone: OMC gains quality assurance certification

Quality assurance certification

Olympic Medical Center announced that it has received ISO 9001:2015 certification through its accrediting body, Det Norske Veritas & Germanisher Lloyd.

This certification demonstrates the hospital is working in a manner that organizes processes, improves the efficiency of processes and continually improves, according to a news release.

The process to receive the certification took three years, according to the release.

ISO 9001 certifies the Quality Management System utilized by the hospital, and is a process-oriented approach to documenting and reviewing structure, responsibilities and procedures required to achieve high-quality care for patients.

Some initiatives taken by the hospital include the establishment of a Patient Family Advisory Council, improving the moderate sedation program, centralizing the hospital’s contract repository and developing a comprehensive contracts management system.

ISO-certified management system improves quality and enhances patient safety by providing a road map for organizations to focus on the effectiveness of clinical, business and support processes to ensure high quality care is achieved.

According to DNV GL, the standard promotes the adoption of a process approach emphasizing the requirements, added value, process performance and effectiveness, and continual improvement through objective measures.
