WOW! forum examines what to do in medical emergencies

Derrell Sharp, Clallam County Fire District 3, presents “I Just Called 9-1-1, Now What?,” a free WOW! Working on Wellness Forum, at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Sharp will be presenting information related to the activation of the 9-1-1 system, when to call 9-1-1 and what to do until arrival. Topics to be discussed will include the signs and symptoms of heart attacks and strokes, and how these medical emergencies are managed and treated in Clallam County Fire District 3.

Other topics include do not resuscitate orders, physician orders for life sustaining treatment (POLST) forms, living wills and more.

Seating is limited so attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

Sharp is a 25-year member of Clallam County Fire District 3, a 20-year paramedic and is the Medical Safety Officer for the district.

WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic—Sequim’s free clinic that provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members.

The clinic’s work is supported by more than 70 volunteers including physicians, other professional health care providers and laypersons, as well as private and public donations from the Sequim community and beyond.

The Basic Urgent Care Clinic is open to patients on Monday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5 p.m. Individuals interested in supporting the clinic may call 360-582-0218.
