The North Olympic Library System offers a Junior Science Explorers event at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
Junior Science Explorers aims to help nurture a child’s natural sense of adventure and curiosity, encourage them to be “persistent problem solvers” and introduce them to basic elements of scientific reasoning with preschool and primary science activities.
Designed for children ages 4-6 and their caregivers, the event introduces youths to the scientific concepts behind rocketry. Children and their caregivers will learn about, build and take home a rocket for future explorations.
Second Saturday Science
Second Saturday Science events are offered at the Sequim Library from 10:30-11:30 a.m. each second Saturday through December. Created for ages 7-12, the program creates fun, hands-on opportunities for children to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, science educator Christine Spaulding introduces children to the scientific concepts behind rocketry. They will learn about, build and take home a rocket.
On Nov. 10, participants explore exciting concepts in chemistry with the Peninsula College STEM Club in the “Atomic Interactions” workshop, learning what makes things fizz, pop and bang, and where bubbles come from.
On Dec. 8, “Skins and Skulls” lets youths investigate the inner and outer workings of some of our local animals to see how they live. Representatives from the Dungeness River Audubon Center lead this session.
