The North Olympic Salmon Coalition and the North Olympic Land Trust are looking for volunteers to help plant native trees along Siebert Creek from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.

The effort will also include a short tour of the conservation area. Snacks, tea and coffee are provided.

A limited supply of tools and gloves will be provided at the planting; however, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own. Bring waterproof clothes and boots, water and a lunch.

The Siebert Creek Conservation Area is a 38.5-acre parcel protected by the North Olympic Land Trust; about 1,500 feet of Siebert Creek flows through the conservation area. The main stem and tributaries of Siebert Creek support coho salmon, winter steelhead and cutthroat trout, conservation officials say. Re-vegetation along Siebert Creek will help restore fish habitat that has seen a lot of degradation because of human activities, including logging, placement of road culverts and over-fishing, they say.

More information about the conservation area can be found on the land trust’s website at www.northolympiclandtrust.org.

Access to the planting site is off Old Olympic Highway. Parking is limited, so volunteers are asked to carpool or use a shuttle van from Port Angeles. RSVP to receive more details at www.nosc.org (click on the “RSVP” button).

Call 360-504-5611 or email to volunteer@nosc.org for more information.

The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is a non-regulatory, non-profit organization that works with willing landowners to perform salmon habitat restoration and education on the North Olympic Peninsula. North Olympic Land Trust is dedicated to the conservation of lands that sustain the economic and ecological vitality of the communities of Clallam County.
