Helen Haller Gets Makeover

During the summer break, 23 classrooms at Helen Haller Elementary had new flooring installed.

Sequim School District maintenance crew members first removed all furniture from the classrooms and then employees from Great Floors, utilizing a specialized machine, removed and disposed of 15-year-old carpeting.

Great Floors installed new sub-flooring and industrial strength tile floors in the classrooms. District maintenance workers applied wax to the newly tiled floors. After new floor work is done, classroom furniture will be replaced.

A countertop was installed in each classroom to serve as a more efficient computer work station, replacing a jumble of small tables.  Maintenance crew were installing the countertops, caulking the seams and in some classrooms, rewiring technology hook-ups.

Teachers at the school had the opportunity to rearrange the set-up of their classrooms, and in some cases, this meant relocating the teacher’s desk, overhead projector and network hook-ups.

These maintenance projects cost $78,500 and were paid for out of EP&O levy funds.
