@SequimSchools — Feb.5, 2020

January’s snowstorms caused a few late-starts and canceled days of school, which will likely be made-up in June. Despite these disruptions to the school calendar, teacher Jesse Klinger said students persevered and continued to progress in their learning.

In math, Haller fourth-grade students worked on geometry concepts – lines, measuring angles, finding unknown angle measures using basic algebra, and classifying triangles and quadrilaterals based on attributes.

@SequimSchools — Feb.5, 2020

Students in Jaysa Hill’s fourth-grade class also learned to read and write poetry, focusing on what inspires poets to write and figurative language. As a culminating activity, students participated in a poetry presentation in which they read aloud an original poem and then explained to the audience, with the use of visuals and evidence from the poem, why they were inspired to write their original poem.

Here are some selected poems:

“My Glum Son”

A rhyming poem by Nathanael Updike

I had a son.

He was real glum.

My glum son liked gum.

My glum son liked to hum

a glum humdrum drum,

while chewing his gum.

“Harbor Seals”

An acrostic poem by Leah Gilliam

Harbor seals

Are

Real

But common

Ocean animals

Really, really, really cute

Swimmers

Eaters

Amazing

Leah’s favorite animal

Super cute

“Untitled”

A rhyming poem by Josh Wakefield

Mr. Unny was very funny.

Mr. Unken has sunken.

Mr. Unky had a pet monkey.

Mr. Wit ate a zit.

Mr. Ita has a cheetah.

Mrs. Ew started to Boo-Hoo!

Mr. Crow watched Winnie the Pooh.

Ms. Ale had a garage sale!

“Questions with Similes”

by Nolan Bacchus

What happens when your teeth aren’t brushed?

Do they charge like an insurance company?

Do they clash like dogs playing?

Do they weaken like people being charged?

Do they sting like angry bees?

Do they decay like Toys R Us?

Do they sour like Kidz Bops songs?

Do they wilt like flowers?

“A Memory Poem for Summertime”

by Ianson Klinger

This is my first memory:

Waking up in my dark blue

bedroom.

Once I woke up,

I had fun

Jumping over

empty floorboards.
