Baked goods sale a guild fundraiser
The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital will be selling homemade baked goods at the Pumpkin Patch Flea Market from 8 a.m. until they’re sold out on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Pumpkin Patch at the corner of Kitchen-Dick Road and U.S. Highway 101.
Prices range from $5-$12 for pies, cookies, breads, jams and jellies, and more. The goodies are hand-crafted in the kitchens of the Sequim Guild Sisters.
All funds received from sales will go to uncompensated care and research at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where nearly 1,000 Clallam County children received care last year.
City sets parks, open space meeting
The public is invited to participate in an online open house to provide input to the City of Sequim on its Parks and Open Space Plan. To participate in the Open House, visit surveymonkey.com/r/SequimOOH now through Sept. 6.
The City of Sequim updates its Parks and Open Space Plan every six years. The plan provides a blueprint for park and open space improvement. In the Open House, participants will learn more about the plan and provide ideas and feedback on what park and recreation programs, services and facilities are important.
Feedback from the Open House, along with a previous survey, will provide input for the draft of the new plan.

Drive-by ice cream social set for Sunday
The Sequim Prairie Grange hosts a Drive By Ice Cream Social from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 290 Macleay Road.
Cost is $7 for banana split or a sundae with vanilla ice cream; choice of toppings is strawberries, pineapple, chocolate and caramel sauce, nuts, whipped topping and a cherry on top.
The event includes live entertainment at the outdoor kitchen from the Buck Ellard Band.

Sequim Understory deadline nears
The deadline to complete the Sequim Understory survey is Tuesday, Aug. 31. The survey results will provide public input for the development of Centennial Place at the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street.
The survey is available on-line at sequimwa.gov/983/Sequim-Understory. Paper copies can be mailed to the Sequim Civic Center, Attn: Sequim Understory, 152 West Cedar Street, Sequim, WA 98382. Or,copies can be dropped off between the double doors of the civic center on the south side of the building.

Olympic Theatre Arts Center will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at OTA, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Coffee With the Mayor available on Zoom
The City of Sequim hosts its next Coffee with the Mayor meeting on Zoom, starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26.

Ski, bike patrol course set in September
The Hurricane Ridge Ski Patrol is offering an Outdoor Emergency Care Certification Course set for 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. for seven Saturdays, starting Sept. 18. The course prepares attendees to pass tests so they can work or volunteer as a ski patroller, cross country ski patroller and/or bike patroller.
Testing will be held Saturday or Sunday, Nov. 13 or 14; class location will be provided upon registration for the course.

JAC club meeting cancellation possible
COVID-19 restrictions may prevent an in-person informational meeting of the newly-formed Junior American Citizen (JAC) club in early September, organizers said last week.
Marianne Burton, co-chair of the Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s JAC program, said that if the meeting — slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, in the conference room at the KSQM 91.5 FM studio, 609 W. Washington St. — in cancelled, interested parties should email mtc1918jac@gmail.com and write “newsletter” in the subject line to receive club information. They should also include the first name and age of each child who is interested in participating, Burton said.
The program, open to youths of any grade level from kindergarten through high school (ages 4-18), focuses on civics and U.S. government principles, patriotism and American history, and helps youths learn about citizen ship in the classroom, in their group and in the community.
