Battelle gets patent

Battelle Memorial Institute, of Richland, has been assigned a patent (No. 10,221,321 — initially filed Aug. 28, 2015), developed by six co-inventors, for a “paintable hydrophobic and lubricant-infused surface coatings and processes for making and using same.” The co-inventors are Raymond S. Addleman, Benton City; Curtis J. Larimer, Richland; Christopher A. Barrett, Richland; George T. Bonheyo, Sequim; Robert T. Jeters, Sequim, and Eric M. Winder, Sequim.

Help warming center, get discount

Pondicherri is offering a 25-percent discount for customers who donate new or gently-used winter items for the Sequim Warming Center.

The center, open from 9 p.m-7 a.m. through March 31 at the lower level of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., is usually opens when the temperatures are forecast to be below 35 degrees for three consecutive nights, or if the temperature stays below freezing for 24 hours.

Quality Inn named Business of the Month

The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce announced Quality Inn and Suites in Sequim is its Shining Star and Business of the Month in March. Chamber staff said the inn received a Platinum Award in July 2018 from Choice Hotels International for being in the top 3 percent of all Quality Inn hotels in the nation.

During the February snowstorm, the inn’s owners and managers donated nights and discounted rates to individuals who were experiencing homelessness and exposed to the elements.

“They are creative, think outside of the box, welcoming, and are deeply devoted to making visitors and our citizens comfortable and cared for,” chamber staff said.
