Free skin cancer screenings through May

Paragon Dermatology, 558 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim, once again has partnered with the American Academy of Dermatology’s Spotme Skin Cancer Screening program to provide free skin cancer screenings during May.

Celebrate Earth Day at Wild Birds

Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101, Gardiner, will have its 11th annual Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 23.

Highlighting the day’s festivities are the Northwest Raptor and Wildlife Center and Discovery Bay Bird Rescue which will have on-hand some of their rehabilitated birds of prey and rescued songbirds.

Walkabouts ($5) showcasing the property’s wild edibles will be at 11-11:30 a.m. and 1-1:30 p.m. Donations of money and supplies support the rescue centers. Call each for their needs.


Social Security seminar set

Travis Berglund hosts an educational seminar, “Understanding Social Security: A look at the bigger picture,” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Sound Community Bank, 645 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Microbes topic at Nash’s

Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way, Sequim, hosts experts on soil microbes from noon-1 p.m. Saturday, April 30. David Montgomery, University of Washington professor, and Anne Biklé, a biologist, uncover stunning similarities between the root of a plant and the human gut that could transform how people grow food and counter the onset of chronic diseases.

Their book, “The Hidden Half of Nature,” will be available for sale and signing.

The talk is co-sponsored by the Sierra Club North Olympic Group and Nash’s Farm Store.


Leadership changes made

The Composite Recycling Technology Center, 2210 W. 18th St., Port Angeles, announced this week changes leadership and expansion for its board of directors.

Robert P. Larsen, president of OboTech LLC, is appointed CEO, and David L. Walter is appointed president of the board of directors after a 34-year career with the DuPont Company.

Ray A. Grove is appointed to the board of directors and chairmanship of the Technical Advisory Board.
