Students who are having difficulty getting a handle on math can turn to Danielle Burke for help.

Burke provides the assistance through her new business, Math Solutions, where she serves as a licensed math tutor.

Burke provides tutoring to all ages, including several college students, but said, "My specialty is tutoring home-schooled students."

On one recent day she tutored Leighton Pace, a home-schooled seventh-grader. The two were working on the ever-tricky task of converting fractions into decimals and percents.

"I’m here to keep up with my studies," Pace said.

Through the Running Start program Burke achieved two educational milestones in 2004, picking up her diploma from Sequim High and her associate’s degree from Peninsula College.

She followed that up with two years studying anthropology and math at the University of Washington.

Burke then served as an assistant in the outdoor wilderness studies program with Tribal Edge where she honed her teaching skills.

Burke provides the lessons at Dungeness Designs Gallery, 520 N. Sequim Ave., in a small room stuffed with the tools of the educational trade.

The classes are $30 an hour.

When the weather is nice, class is held outdoors, Burke said.

"My mission," said Burke, "is to bring clarity and understanding to those who have trouble with math. I also want to make math fun and enjoyable for all!"
