Eclectic boutique has more for less

Karol’s New To You, consignment shop, attracts classy clientele

Karol Morrison has brought her passion for and decades of experience with consignment stores to Sequim as Karol’s New to You, 262 W. Bell St.

Tucked into a pre-1920s bungalow, the store’s six rooms are brimming with upscale fashions and accessories for discerning women.

“It’s an eclectic shop because there’s such a variety and the decor people love,” Morrison said.

“This home is a perfect format for what we are doing here. Most people come in and say it’s just like a modern store because we take in only the best.”

Instead of the garish glare of fluorescent lights, the light is warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is comfortable for browsing. The hanging clothing racks, made by Russell Thomas of Thomas Building Supply, allow for boutique-style arrangements of clothing, organized by size.

The front room houses evening, prom and wedding dresses, the second classy casuals.

Among the well-respected brand names are St. John’s, Ann Taylor, Pendleton, Tommy Bahama, Nordstrom and INC.

“We have a lot of small designers, too, and everything here is a one-of,” Morrison said, noting that consigners from as far away as Hawaii seek her out. Currently she has 70 consigners.

To ensure quality for her customers, Morrison has a strict consignment policy: Items must be clean, trendy, designer label, professional, holiday or cruise wear, smoke-free and on hangers.

Consignments are taken on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings by appointment one week in advance. She’s now accepting spring and summer fashions.

Morrison opened the shop on Oct. 28, 2013, and said business has been great.

“People have really embraced the shop,” Morrison said. “And Bell Street is a secondary street so there’s good traffic.” It’s just east of the Oak Table Cafe.

The boutique is strictly women’s wear and includes chic dresses, slacks, skirts, swimwear, blouses and tops for sizes 4 to 3X. Accessories include swank belts, scarves, hats, purses and shoes.

Morrison also has three cabinets of jewelry, most of it new, for the bling in your life. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Both Morrison and her assistant Michelle Connell love fashion and putting together ensembles for their customers.

“There’s something here for everyone and for women who don’t want to spend a lot of money,” Morrison said. “If you love fashion and like to look good, come to Karol’s.”
