Guest column: Fresh perspective on employment at Sequim Farmers Artisans Market

The Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market has expanded in recent years, and the work of our passionate staff has become increasingly multifaceted. While we recently embarked on a hiring process for current staff transitions, it has become clear that restructuring employment positions will improve the organization’s employment practices in a number of necessary ways.

The Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market is a vibrant seasonal event that remains viable by responding to the needs of our community. We share this process in the interest of transparency, and to include the community in our journey as we strive to serve you to the very best of our ability.

To work within the existing budget, tasks and functions are divided into three separate part-time positions that allow more flexibility for the hybrid-remote nature of the work, paired with increased hourly wages.

Incorporated into this new structure is improved support for staff; a balance of independent and collaborative work functions; and positions available with a range of hours. We believe this will make working for the market more accessible for people with varying employment needs.

As a result of these efforts, the Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market is excited to announce three newly updated staff positions. Working with the market is a unique opportunity for engagement with our community, and we look forward to establishing a team of staff members who share the vision of our organization. Amidst these exciting staff transitions, a passionate team of Board members and volunteers are currently preparing for the opening of the 2023 Market Season on Saturday May 6!

You can look forward to another outstanding show of vendors this year, providing your weekly one-stop-shopping venue for locally grown, sourced, and handcrafted products that reflect the beautiful region we share here on the North Olympic Peninsula.
