Grace Lambert recently opened Flamingo Fitness, a small Sequim studio catering to those who want help improving their level of physical fitness.

Lambert, who is certified as a personal trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, specializes in providing guidance on exercises that can be accomplished with a minimum of exercise equipment. “My goal is to teach (clients) how to keep fit at home.”

Lambert works with individuals and small groups. Though she works with all ages, she also calls herself a “senior fitness specialist.”

That includes a blend of core training (“the trunk”) along with exercises that promote better balance and flexibility. She also provides “reactive training,” which she explained means improved response time.

Lambert also provides strength training for post-menopausal women and exercise training for those with fibromyalgia.

Start with the individual

Following an individual fitness assessment, Lambert creates a customized training regimen that provides the appropriate combination of exercises. That may include cardiorespiratory training to strengthen the heart and improve lung capacity.

Lambert, who with her husband, Steve, owns a computer consulting and software firm, said she got into the business after spending 30 years sitting in front of a computer. That resulted in health issues, she said.

Lambert then met Heidi Bryan of Anytime Fitness. “I loved her enthusiasm, health and advice and it steered me to make a difference,” Lambert said.

She added that chiropractor Leslie Van Romer and retired physical therapist Barb Paschal also were “instrumental in guiding and supporting me. I’m very grateful,” she said.

She said she’s also grateful to husband Steve for building the exercise studio and office at 141 Williamson Road.
