IHOP closes after eight years in Sequim

After eight years serving Sequim citizens breakfast foods early in the morning to late at night, the International House of Pancakes closed on June 24.

Employees and customers reported that owners closed it last Sunday afternoon without advance notice, but did offer positions to employees at the Silverdale IHOP.

Mohammed Khadar, owner of the Sequim IHOP, could not be reached by press time.

Some signage was taken down on Monday, June 25, and signs were posted in front windows reading, “Thank you Sequim for the 8 years of your support, we are now closed.”

The restaurant opened June 22, 2010, at 1360 W. Washington St.

When Khadar opened the franchise in Sequim, he said there was a lot of potential here because sit-down restaurants fare better in retirement communities.

The national franchise saw some recent buzz following its marketing campaign to promote its burgers by changing its name temporarily to International House of Burgers.

IHOP was the second national franchise sit-down restaurant, joining Applebee’s, to stay open later than traditional restaurants in Sequim.

Sequim IHOP’s building was built specifically for the restaurant, but no determination as to whether it will be sold or leased has been publicly announced.
