It’s a ‘losing’ proposition

Area women open weight loss clinic with Ideal Weight Loss program

Christy Fulmer and Echo Sales are true believers in the Ideal Weight Loss program and want to bring the means to their success to Sequim’s overweight residents.

Fulmer said she lost 32 pounds on the all protein, low fat, low carbs program and Sales said she’s shed a whopping 80 pounds since June 2013, all thanks to a food regimen in which they replaced two meals and a snack daily with Ideal’s prepackaged protein meals.

Both women are now slim, trim, healthy and enthusiastic. Sales said the weight loss gave her a new outlook on life.

The two are partners in the Ideal Weight Loss & Wellness Center, an independently owned clinic at 645 W. Washington St., and see clients on a by appointment basis.

There’s a one-time fee to join the program but it’s good for life. Other costs are the weekly protein meals that result in marked weight loss, the pair said.

The average loss for the first week is 2-4 pounds and 3-5 pounds thereafter, they noted. The key difference about this diet is fat is lost but muscle mass is retained, the women explained.

“It’s an investment,” Fulmer said, “and people should commit to losing weight. They are saving money in fast food and junk food. Food bills have gone down for both of us because we’re not buying junk food.”

Sales has had a lifelong struggle with her weight and Fulmer didn’t like what she was seeing on the scale.

“We both really felt obligated to tell people about the program,” Sales said. “Both of us were on every diet and we’d always gained back the weight. It wasn’t that the diet didn’t work — it was that I couldn’t work the diet.”

Membership in the clinic includes individualized weekly coaching, weighing and a body composition analysis that’s as accurate as a dunk tank. A device measures body fat, lean mass, fat mass and hydration level.

“A healthy body fat percentage is below 25 percent,” Sales said. “It’s a very low carb, low fat, low calorie program.”

In addition to the coaching, the partners help clients choose among 31 different protein packs. They stay on the plan until they get to their desired weight — in Sales’ case it took eight months — then follow that up with phases two and three for two weeks each, afterward moving into maintenance.

The women said they are proud of the fact that their clients have lost a total of 1,002 pounds and are keeping them off.

“Any weight loss program helps you lose weight but the Ideal program helps you maintain your weight loss for life,” Sales said. “This diet works every time, week after week after week.”

Fulmer added, “It has very predictable results. It puts math and science behind losing weight and it works for everybody.”

“We encourage people to check in with us even after they’re done with the program to be weighed and measured,” Fulmer said. “The program offers a lot of support and education in e-mailed videos.”

Twice a month the partners make an hour-long presentation about the Ideal program but they don’t do any “hard” selling Fulmer said. They just hope to help people make life-changing choices.

The next presentation is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30.
