‘Lavish’ some TLC on yourself: New day spa opens in Sequim

After a hearty workout at the gym, pamper yourself with a relaxing massage at Lavish Day Spa, just a few steps away from the exercise equipment. Kristine Smith just opened her business on March 10 after having worked for others on Whidbey Island for a dozen years, where she won “Best Massage Therapist” in 2009.

When she had attended beauty school, her senior project was on creating her own spa, so she had a good idea of what menu of services she wanted to provide. An attractive brochure lists six pages of specialized services but basically she offers massages, skin care solutions and several methods of hair removal including waxing and sugaring, a much gentler form of the procedure.

The treatment room is soothing with muted colors, low lights and soft music.

“Massage comes natural to me,” Smith said, noting for the customer’s convenience massages and facials are done in the same room without disruption. “I base my whole practice around the client and services are very tailored to each individual.”

With a ready smile and a calming voice, Smith said she became a massage therapist because she has a healing nature.

“I love helping people and I’m drawn to science and art — massage is a happy blend between the two of them,” Smith said.

“For example, with someone with an injury, when I help them be conscious of their body to help them feel better, to me it feels like art — creating something for them. I want people to come in for the whole body experience.”

Other services include aromatherapy, hand treatments, foot scrubs, facials, peels, lash and brow tinting, body treatments and a specialty, pregnancy massage. Smith also offers spa packages that last from 90 minutes to four hours.

Smith is a one-woman operation and takes clients by appointment between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. See her website at www.lavishinsequim.com.

She’s also a busy Girl Scout leader and soccer mom.

“I welcome everybody, men and women of all ages,” she said. “Everybody needs the art of touch.”
