Vickie Maples, owner of Pacific Mist Books, announced this week that Pacific Mist Books, Sequim’s independent general bookstore located in the core of downtown for over 20 years, is for sale until the end of March.

Maples cited “urgent family health and business needs in California” in a press release, and said she would be returning to California in April.

Maples has owned the store since November 2011. She said she has been “delighted with the tremendous support from both local residents and visitors alike.”

In her press release, Maples noted that she has new ideas and events that she’d hoped to initiate in the coming years but, “family comes first and I am needed in California now and for the foreseeable future.”

Pacific Mist Books will continue to be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday through March and participating in First Fridays in February and March.

“I realize this is a very short time frame for prospective buyers but I sincerely hope there will be local interest in purchasing the shop in order to retain our local community bookstore,” Maples said.

Maples said she is planning a “going-away-but-coming-back-to-visit-often” party before she leaves.
