With the arrival of sleep medicine physician Michael McDonald, MD, Olympic Medical Physicians (OMP) Specialty Clinic in Sequim is reinvigorating its sleep medicine program this month.

McDonald, board certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, will lead the overall sleep program at Olympic Medical.

McDonald is first provider to practice at OMC as a result of the hospital’s new affiliation with Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

“Dr. McDonald brings more than 30 years of sleep medicine experience to our community. We are very fortunate to have someone of this caliber providing sleep medicine locally,” said Scott Kennedy, MD, chief medical officer for Olympic Medical. “Dr. McDonald has the endorsement and specialty peer support of the Swedish Sleep Medicine program — a significant benefit of Olympic Medical Center’s participation in the Swedish Health Network.

“Our sleep medicine program has been re-energized and we are pleased to have excellent sleep lab staff to complement Dr. McDonald’s medical expertise,” said Kennedy.

McDonald offers consultations for a variety of sleep disorder symptoms, including snoring, insomnia, daytime sleepiness and restless leg syndrome. He also offers initial pediatric consults, something for which families previously had to travel out of the area. McDonald’s affiliation with Swedish Sleep Medicine allows for convenient referrals to the Swedish system when needed.

Olympic Medical Sleep Center re-opening soon

Olympic Medical Sleep Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and is located on the third floor of Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles. When it reopens for patient care in June, it will offer new technology.

“This new equipment is quiet, more comfortable and versatile — catering to all types of patients and allowing them to fall asleep more easily during the study,” said Lindsay Johnson, sleep lab supervisor at the sleep center. “We look forward to working with Dr. McDonald to help our patients get the sleep they need so they can not only function better during the day, but also see improvements in their overall health status.”
