Washington Federal foundation supports Serenity House

Serenity House got a boost last week, thanks to Washington Federal’s community reinvestment foundation.

The foundation gave Serenity House $1,000 that will assist with weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades to the circa 1930s Horne Building at 203 N. Sequim Ave.

The building’s 10 residential units provide a mix of temporary and permanent housing for extremely low-income households.

It also is the site of the Sequim Housing Resource Center, which is the intake office for Serenity House services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

“Washington Federal’s generosity gives a big boost toward keeping this affordable housing safe and operationally sustainable,” said Serenity House deputy director Brad Collins.

He estimated that necessary renovations to flooring, laundry facilities and windows can be accomplished for about $9,000. For more information on the Horne renovation project, contact Collins at 452-1439.
