Clouds of steam rise from the cogeneration facility at the McKinley Paper mill on Marine Drive in Port Angeles on Saturday as crews begin the process of bringing the mill back into production, three years after it was shut down by and sold by Nippon Paper Industries USA. As part of the start-up process, the company announced that pipes must be cleaned in order for the cogeneration plant to produce steam for the mill and electricity for sale and that the cleanup process could produce noise that might disturb nearby neighborhoods. McKinley has not announced a date for when production of containerboard would begin at the retooled mill.
