Thanks for the musical magic

As visitors to this wonderful Peninsula, we wish to express our gratitude to all those who brought the magic of Disney to the James Center for the Performing Arts on June 9.

We spent an awesome Sunday afternoon listening to music by the Sequim City Band, enjoying the costumed children dancing with happy abandon, the audience of all ages smiling, chatting and unconsciously creating a typical Disney portrait filled with the joy of living.

The music was lovely, and we are left with a joyful heartful of memories created with this incredible presentation.

As seniors, with some mobility issues, upper most of all these incredible memories, was a lovely lady who added to the afternoon’s enjoyment. This lovely soul saw our physical challenge carrying our chairs and picnic lunch entering the grassy area, making every effort to assist us so that we could be a part of this great vacation memory.

We live in the Canadian city of Calgary, Alberta — home of the world-famous Calgary Stampede. We will treasure the memory of this very special afternoon, the random act of kindness shown by our helper and the marvelous visit to your city. Thank you!

Gun ‘stats’ not the whole story

In response to “Going for the guns” (Letters to the editor, Sequim Gazette, page A-12):

Once again, we have a Republican bleating the tried and true “They’re coming for our guns” mantra.

He even has “stats” of 4.7 deaths per 100,000 people. The problem with that “stat” is it’s not the whole story. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2017 the firearm-related death rate for the U.S. was 12.21 when all causes are considered. They include homicide, suicide unintentional and undetermined.

As for comparison to other countries, I suggest Canada as opposed to Honduras. Canada, which most people would agree is more like the U.S. had a death rate of 2.05 on the same CDC website.

Regarding the comment about too many Democrats, I have two things to say. There were three million too many Democrats voting in 2016, but Trump still became president, so what’s your worry? Maybe there are just too many Republicans spewing misleading information — but I’m sure this is just fake news to them.

‘Unfit’? Hardly

In reference to the letter of “Unfit for Office” (Sequim Gazette, May 8, 2019, page A-12), I have to strongly disagree with that assessment. My informed opinion when ignoring all the total nonsense put out by fake “news” sources such as CNN, MSNBC (the two worst), etc. we now have the most accomplished president in my nearly 70-year lifetime.

President Trump’s accomplishments in just two years, even with nearly zero Democrat cooperation and continual lies & distortions from a corrupt media are way too numerous to list, but all one has to do is search the subject on the internet for details. Hundreds exist, but I’ll list a few here (sources: www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/trumps-list-289-accomplishments-in-just-20-months-relentless-promise-keeping and 710wor.iheart.com/featured/mark-simone/content/2019-03-09-the-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-so-far):

Lowest unemployment since 1969, with minority unemployment at all-time lows and women’s at 65-year low. A huge tax cut which has helped most Americans have more to spend. Nearly five million off of food stamps. Crippling regulations cut big-time, greatly helping businesses expand, produce more, and create jobs. Eliminated the ridiculous Obamacare insurance mandate penalty. Billions of new funding to fight the opioid epidemic. Doing all he can to secure our border and deal with the now widely recognized emergency of massive illegal border crossings. Renegotiating trade & defense deals that have for decades made America look like the biggest sucker in the world. Our country is now energy independent for the first time in memory. Seriously dealing with the North Korean, Iranian and Venezuelan issues. ISIS territory eliminated in Iraq and Syria. Rebuilding an Obama depleted military to enhance national security and peace.

Trump is a man of action, energy, and optimistic positive attitude, a man of great accomplishments in just two years. His predecessor was completely unqualified, having run nothing so much as even a lemonade stand. What an embarrassment, way out of his league.

What’s truly amazing is what Trump has gotten done with all the radical socialist Dems and their media propaganda collaborators working 24/7 against him.
