Here comes the weekend, and, if you are like most of us, you choose carefully how you’ll spend those 72 hours. Here are some suggestions from Page C-6:
Friday Dec. 31
• New Year’s Eve offers music and dancing at venues across the peninsula. Stardust Big Band music welcomes the new year at 7 Cedars Casino.
The loyal Stardust followers bring out their dressiest and sparkliest attire for New Year’s Eve. While dancing, they look like a twirling starry sky.
Oasis offers a more intimate dance floor and jazz from George Snyder’s OlyJazz Band. Among the other opportunities to celebrate are the Elks Lodge in Port Angeles and Upstage Restaurant in Port Townsend. 360-385-2216.
• If more exercise is on your list of resolutions, you can burn lots of calories, have fun and meet friendly people while square and contra dancing. Quimper Grange in Port Townsend can help you kick off your new habit.
• Holiday gifts, for yourself — as a reward for all your work throughout the holidays — or others, still are available. Blue Whole Gallery’s sale of works by local artists continues through today, Dec. 31.
• Peace, forgiveness, insightful activities, spiritual growth, music, connections. These are some of the goals and expectations of an afternoon through welcoming-the-new-year celebration in Agnew.
Saturday Jan. 1
• Bowl games take over today. If the house is well-stocked with snacks and beverages, the remote is where it easily can be found and you want to escape for a while, consider the Art Is a Gift show and sale at the Port Angeles Fine Art Center and a walk through Webster’s Woods.
If you’re closer to Port Townsend, Northwind Arts Center has a show that continues through Monday that’s worth a look.
Sunday Jan. 2
• From 4-6 p.m., you can watch English country dancing, a courtly type of dance dating from the mid-1600s, at RoseWind Common House in Port Townsend.
• If you see small groups of people with binoculars and spotting scopes about today, pointing to something, they probably are taking part in the Port Angeles Christmas Bird Count, an annual “day in time” census of the bird population.
