Acres of fun set for annual Barn Dance

What started as a small school fundraiser is now filling up the barn.

Five Acre School’s 14th-annual Barn Dance is back with a full lineup of local music from 2-10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

Five Acre’s Parent Service Organization looks to bring the community together again for a full day of entertainment, activities, dancing and food for both children and adults.

Tickets are $25, though there is a pay-what-you-can option at the front gate and youths 12 and younger are admitted free. Get tickets at thebarndance.org/tickets.

The festivities take place across two exposition halls, featuring live music, a bake sale and silent auction. The event also offers an array of children’s activities and crafts including a new family professional portrait station and a goat petting zoo starting at 2 p.m.

The day kicks off with family-focused live music and activities, as popular children’s entertainer Harmonica Pocket leads a “musical adventure” filled with song, dance and a bit of theatrics.

The Five Acre School marimba band, Sound Waves, will also perform.

The evening entertainment is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. with the Backwood Hucksters, a a country blues and bluegrass band, and headlining the evening entertainment is Kalan Wolfe and the Shift, known for their unique fusion of folk, rock, reggae and hip-hop.

Local caterers Pacific Pantry and the Goat & Radish will be at the Barn Dance providing food all day. Beers from Angeles Brewing, ciders from Finnriver, wines from Harbinger Winery and Salish Seltzers from Goodness Tea will be available starting at 4 p.m.

Proceeds from the event go toward the Five Acre School tuition assistance and school facility improvement.

Five Acre School is a small, independent nonprofit school serving youths in preschool through sixth grade at a campus adjacent to the Dungeness Recreation Area.

“The school provides a caring and flexible educational program emphasizing a child-centered approach,” Five Acre School representatives said.
