Quartet plays at barn concert

The final chamber music concert of the 2017 Concerts in the Barn Season is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, and features pianist Yana Reznik with three members of the Seattle Symphony: cellist Eric Han, clarinetist Eric Jacobs and violinist Mae Lin. There is no charge to attend the concert, hosted at 7630 Center Road in Quilcene; no tickets or reservations are required; seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. SuperTrees plays at Friday Art Rock

2nd Friday Art Rock keeps summer alive with music from local band SuperTrees and art by local artist Cyndy Eaton. Art Rock starts at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., Port Angeles. SuperTrees plays authentic music, both old and new, including a Bowie tribute by Steve Koehler (lead vocals, guitar), a blues revue by Harry Bidasha (vocals, drums), a new song about eBay by Rudy Maxion (vocals, bass), and a new song about getting old by Dan Lieberman (vocals, guitar). Eaton does metal and wood sculpture and multi-media, and will be doing a demonstration of Turkish marbling at Art Rock. Cover is $3.

OMF features Beethoven

The Olympic Music Festival’s summer season concludes at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9-10, with a focus on Ludwig Van Beethoven’s string quartets. The Ariel Quartet, recipient of the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, makes its festival debut performing two individual programs featuring works from the early, middle and late periods of Beethoven’s life. Ticket prices range from $33-$40 and may be purchased at 385-9699 or at www.olympicmusicfestival.org.

With the purchase of a concert ticket, audience members can attend Paul Hersh’s one-hour lecture beginning at noon at Fort Worden’s Wheeler Theater. Both concerts include a post-concert question-and-answer session with the quartet and Hersh.

Sequim Library book talk takes on ‘The Septembers of Shiraz’

“The Septembers of Shiraz” by Dalia Sofer is the book up for discussion at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. All patrons are welcome to join the talk. Symphony/chorus seeking new members

Rhody O’s host social, intro lesson

The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club offers beginning square dance lessons starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Gardiner Community Center.

All are invited to a free ice cream social and introductory dance lesson. Lessons are held each Tuesday evening through the autumn and winter with graduation in late spring.

There is no experience necessary. The Rhody O’s are an informal group who dance in shorts and jeans and sometimes their gardening clothes. For more information contact Walt at 683-0622.

Photographers plan open studio

Images of musicians in Havana, Cuba; animals in Clallam Bay; and sunset in Saguaro National Park in Arizona — among other locales — will appear in an open studio event this Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 9-10.

Photographers Philip D. Lusk and Diane Urbani de la Paz invite lovers of travel, wildlife and music to see their work from 5-8 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at their studio, 232 W. Second St., Port Angeles.

Admission is free, while the framed photographs are available for purchase in various sizes.
