Monday Musicale scholarships available

Monday Musicale is inviting Clallam County high school seniors, who are going on to major or minor in music, or continue private music lessons, to apply and audition for a music scholarship.

First place, in honor of Richard McCoy, is $3,000. Second place is $2,000 and third place is $1,000.

Auditions are at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. Three professional musicians will serve as adjudicators.

Instrumentalists should prepare a classical piece not to exceed 10 minutes. Vocalists should have two selections of varied styles.

Applications are available from the school’s scholarship councilor. Homeschooled students can call Scholarship Chair Margot Hewitt for an application at 360-457-4494.

Applications must be returned by April 27 to be considered.

Family friends and the general public are invited to attend the auditions. Refreshments will be served while the judges make their decisions.

Chorus offers ‘Friends & Family Night’

The Grand Olympics Chorus presents Friends & Family Night on Monday, April 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim, starting at 7:30 p.m. The event is free.

The chorus, a Sweet Adelines International a cappella group, is preparing for their Regional Contest in Spokane on April 28 and will present their contest set along with other pieces.

Grand Olympics Chorus meets on Monday nights from 6:30-9 p.m. at QFC Shopping Center in Sequim, Suite E-103. Guests are welcome to come to rehearsals and women are welcome to audition to join this group.

Book group to talk ‘Ordinary Grace’

The Second Saturday Book Discussion Group meets at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, to discuss William Kent Krueger’s “Ordinary Grace,” at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Copies of “Ordinary Grace” are available in various formats including regular print, large print, audiobook on CD and downloadable eBook, which may be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. A limited number of copies of each book discussion selection are available at the Library the month prior to each meeting. OPAA meets April 26

The Olympic Peninsula Art Association hosts glassblowing artist Megan Schmidlkofer from 9:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, April 26, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

Gospel singers April 14

The Peninsula Men’s Gospel Singers will be performing at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Sequim Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane.

The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to support the group’s expenses.

The ensemble is a group of Christian men who “love to sing of the glad tidings of God’s love, salvation and the kingdom of God as announced to the world by Jesus Christ.” The singers draw members from across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Free concert April 13

Soloist Kinnie Dye is coming to the Olympic Peninsula for a free concert from 7-8 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the Big Barn at 254 N. Bagley Creek Road, Port Angeles.

The concert is sponsored by Center for Spiritual Living-Port Angeles.

Dye toured with Broadway shows for five years and, after another five years with the band The Yes Team, she ventured out on her own in January 2016, recording “Live,” her first full-length album.
