Woodturners group to meet

Strait Turners, a local woodturners group, meets from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road. The meeting has two featured guests sharing the “presenters timeframe”: Crystal Abbotte’s “Resin Casting” will include the casting process, a DIY conversion for a pot, polishing and more, while Mark Nebel’s 3-D modeling demonstration using a lathe feature helps design a project, show it in 3-D and add color to the model. Turners of all levels are welcome, even those who are interested in learning about the hobby. For more information, go to www.straitturners.org.

Concert rescheduled

Because of poor air quality on the Olympic Peninsula, The City of Sequim canceled the Aug. 21 Music in the Park concert. City staff look to reschedule the event, one that was to feature Ranger and the Re-Arrangers, later this summer.

According to AirNow.gov, the current air quality index for the Olympic Peninsula is at 177, which is considered an unhealthy level, city staff said earlier this week.
